Self-realization, a path toward transformation, leads to mental liberation.
Consequently, we must be cognizant that “Vision, like a tree, can never grow tall and bear fruits while confined in a flower vessel. It either breaks the vessel to flourish or perishes while grappling with fitting in with that compact vessel”. In other words, “The dream that is set to be actualized is made vulnerable by conceiving an uncanny frame of mind.”
Never is the chain of physical slavery as robust as the chain of mental slavery. It is unfortunate but true that “The snake which cannot cast its skin has to die. The minds of which are also prevented from changing their opinions; they cease to be mind.” ― Friedrich Nietzsche.
The physical chain of slavery may rust, but the mental chains can persist as long as the slave master prevails and the enslaved is oblivious to his situation. The phenomenon of mental slavery extends beyond individuals to the point where even developed nations take pride in enslaving their own citizens and other countries.
Miss Fiyah once remarked, “Mental slavery is the worst form of slavery. It gives you the illusion of freedom, makes you trust, love and defend your oppressor while making an enemy of those trying to free you or open your eyes”.
This quote by Miss Fiyah encapsulates the concept of Stockholm syndrome, which subjects its victims to mental torment and emotional and psychological trauma and renders them half-dead. Yet, they are entwined with their oppressors, proving Eugene Victor Debs’ claim that “In every age, it has been the tyrant, the oppressor and the exploiter who has wrapped himself in the cloak of patriotism, or religion, or both to deceive and overawe the People.” It is all about wolves in sheep’s attire hunting for easy prey.
‘The failure of a man to comprehend when he is living in a caged mind leads in continual life of captivity,’ Harriet Tubman lamented, saying, “I freed a thousand slaves, “I could have freed a thousand more if only they knew they were slaves.”
Someone once discovered a suicide note with the words,
“I have been in this mental anguish since the ‘beginning of my life.'” I can no longer keep up; there is no chain around my body, but what appears to be unseen chains are choking me to death.”
The link in the chain of mental enslavement is psychological torture and trauma. Therefore, “Free yourself from mental slavery. Break those invisible chains your masters put on your spiritual neck to control you”. ― Bangambiki Habyarimana, Book of Wisdom. Ready to move away from mental slavery? Keep in touch.
